Fun ways to prepare for school

School! A word we both dread and feel excited to experience. Why? Because school is not just an edifice where we are required to be punctual and disciplined about our studies; it is an experience and journey which makes our childhood absolute and enjoyable. But after nearly 2 years of the pandemic and home and technology-based teaching, the idea of offline re-opening of schools was quite stressful and intimidating. Preparing for school was necessary, at the same time scary. How could I make this a piece of cake? The answer gradually dawned on me. A week after my exams ended, I started preparing for the re-opening of school; mentally preparing myself from the sudden change, because I struggle to adjust to change in surroundings quickly. I bought the books, uniforms and experienced a sense of nostalgia, absolutely for free! The workload of school hit us like a storm, brutal and unforgiving. Preparing for assignments and assessments; the pandemic having made us all lazy haha!, just...

The enormous canvas of life

The canvas of life is so enormous , so widespread, that to have one ultimate goal set for it, that remains relevant for all stages of life that one passes through, is almost impossible. Haven't we all had different ambitions at different junctures of our lives? Today a sailor, tomorrow an animal trainer, next an animator, soldier, or a chef and then we landed up doing something else. Even after a final choice is made, people change professions many times in life with changing interests and influences. The case in point is that instead of seeing life from a predetermined macro lens, it better be allowed room for change in colours or even change of the entire picture. One way is to focus on micro or short-term goals or the next few steps, of the destination planned. The shorter itineraries help get an unhurried view of what is around; there may be new possibilities, they unfold the actual interests of the traveller, keep the motivation high and sustained; since the goal is not a fa...

How to Make Online Teaching-Learning More Efficient

As we are entering into a new era where social isolation has become the norm, the disruption to our lives has been sudden and drastic.  The education sector has witnessed a dramatic change too, moving from real-world classrooms to a virtual setting. As schools rapidly scramble to adjust to the digital classroom, we explore how online learning can be made truly powerful. STEAM vs STEM education: What's best for our child’s future in the digital age?

STEM is an abbreviation for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths. “STEAM” includes STEM plus the Arts – humanities, language arts, dance, drama, music, visual arts, design, and new media. The main difference between STEM and STEAM is STEM explicitly concentrates on scientific concepts. STEAM investigates the same concepts but does this through inquiry and problem-based education methods used in the creative process. 'STEAM' education in schools provides students with the opportunities to learn creatively, practicing 21st-century skills such as problem-solving. These extensive capabilities are crucial to growing a future-ready workforce that understands the potential of “what if” when resolving problems that occur in real life. So the idea of “what if?” is not dependent on the purchase of STEAM-specific technologies or even classroom or the maker space design. It’s more dependent on the creativity and curiosity of the teachers collaborating with their students. We at Th...
